Spring 2008
Dear Friends of the Provincetown Theater Community,

For those of you who have followed the “behind the scenes” stories of theater in Provincetown over the years, you are aware of the trials and successes each act of the drama has revealed. Well, 2008 is bringing up the curtain on the next act in the life of the New Provincetown Players (NPP), and our plans for diversified programming will keep the doors of this important American theater in Provincetown swinging wide open throughout the year, but we need you, as audience and involved community members, to step inside with us to support these efforts.

The winter season got off to a great start with a reading by beloved Provincetown poet, Mary Oliver. Ms. Oliver read to a packed house, and has pledged her support towards efforts to keep the theater lit. Acclaimed playwright, Wendy Kesselman, spoke of the National Endowment for the Arts grant awarded for the NPP 2008 Spring Playwrights’ Festival, featuring a production of her play, The Notebook. Nina Schuessler of the Harwich Junior Theater is directing this engaging play that powerfully explores the role of reading literature in young people’s development. The NEA award, however, is dependent upon matching community support.

Meanwhile, the annual winter reading series in January and February delighted audiences. Susan Grilli’s Counter Productions presented two critically acclaimed productions – Doubt and Kimberly Akimbo – with Anna in the Tropics and Souvenir (along with a number of special Sunday afternoon concert performances) coming up to finish their winter season in residence.
We invite you to become a member to help match the NEA grant and meet other costs. Member privileges include participation in steering the organization through quarterly meetings and involvement with committees, if desired. Most importantly, you will take pride in being an integral part of the Provincetown theater community through the New Provincetown Players. Please return the enclosed envelope with your pledge to become a first-time member, or recommit. We welcome you in helping the next act unfold for the New Provincetown Players.
