Apprentice Program
Over the course of a summer, the New Provincetown Players presents at least three major productions with a wide variety of technical production needs. In 2005, Producing Artistic Director Guy Wolf designed and initiated the first New Provincetown Players Apprentice Program with four young people. Since then, the program has proved so successful that the number of Apprentices who work under the supervision of highly trained theater professionals has doubled in size from four to eight young people ages fourteen to twenty-two.
Using the Provincetown Theater’s state-of-the-art computer, lighting and sound equipment, on-the-job training areas include:
- lighting and sound design and implementation
- stage management (including costumes and props)
- house management
- assistant-directing/performance
- public relations, fundraising and event planning
- data management software and ticketing,
Apprentices also learn basic personal money and time management skills and the accountability required by teamwork in a time-driven setting – i.e. work ethics such as cooperation, following through on directions, completing jobs, arriving at work on time and how to meet the demands of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary production environment
Oh….did we mention have fun??
We gratefully acknowledge that this program is made possible in part by support from Bank of America, The Kelley Foundation and T.D. Banknorth.
